Just in case anyone comes here for the same problem, this is what I did: 1) Download and install Shrew Soft VPN client from https://www.shrew.net/download/vpn 2) Extract the university's VPN client Option 2: Try alternative Luckily, the latest version of VPN client from shrew.net seems to be working just fine. Many, many thanks! Try disabling any local firewalls on the 8.1 box and see if that makes any difference. Lastly, do you have any other VPN clients installed?
