Then retracts, there's a partial shutter closure. Slapped the back of the camera sharply and the lens retracted. Any ideas?? What can I do to fix this? his comment is here
I found bits of foreign material inside the lens assembly, and jammed in between the gear teeth. The barrel would not go in, the lens opened halfway. Look it up, Canon shows to be one of the most reliable. The LCD display sucks up a lot of power, so by not having the LCD display turn on, more battery power will be available to help power up the lens. now it's fine. weblink If this doesn't work turn it on alternating between video, auto, and camera modes (while tapping).
