I wacked it a couple of times on a hard surface and it started working again after I dropped it and got the dreaded E18 error mesage in the middle of Batteries are ok. Tried advice from a different of sites (hitting/pushing/twisting the lens gentle, etc) -- but this was the only solution that worked in the end!
