Canon E18 Error Repair
It won't allow me to take a picture, and usually it shuts off within the first 15 seconds of turning it on. After a bit of research I decide to strip the entire camera down and clean everything. I just hope I didn't damage the lens in all the fiddling I was doing with it prior. The lens error will occur once these materials work their way into the lens mechanism.
After turning it on and off multiple times and giving it a small tap, it went in on its own. Result "zoom error" on screen, lens stuck halfway and the outer segment was at a strange angle. My co-worker and I spent about 30 minutes this morning trying all 7 of the fixes on your list, to no avail. I have a Canon Powershot SD400 and the lens jammed one day. Is there anything you suggest I do or am i due for a new camera? The lens gets stuck in the extended position, and refuses to move either to focus the lens or to retract when powered off.
More people have reported success with this method than with any of the other methods (see the polls in the right column). The fact that your getting a picture, although blurry, is hopeful. Again, the goal is to attempt to straighten or align the barrel if it's crooked or twisted. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Other variations include blowing with a hair dryer in "no heat" setting, or sucking the gaps with a vacuum (careful with this one). The think that worked for me is #7;; Forcing the lens in.
